Jamshedpur: With the auspicious Chhath Puja approaching, the district administration has intensified preparations to ensure the festival is celebrated smoothly and safely across the district. On Friday, District Magistrate-cum-Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi personally inspected key Chhath ghats, including Two Muhani and Swarnarekha ghats, to review the ongoing arrangements and to take stock of the readiness of various departments involved in the festival preparations.
Accompanying the Deputy Commissioner during the inspection were ADM (Law and Order) Bhagirath Prasad, Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee) Krishna Kumar, District Transport Officer Dhananjay, SDM Dhalbhum Chandrajeet Singh, and representatives from JUSCO and other concerned departments. Officials from the police, fire services, and health departments were also present to coordinate final preparations.
During the inspection, the Deputy Commissioner issued several important directives to ensure safety and convenience for the devotees. He instructed officials to complete all cleaning work at the ghats well in advance, with special attention to removing silt, garbage, and weeds from the riverbanks. The construction of changing rooms, installation of lights, and setting up of barricades around danger zones were also emphasized. Satyarthi directed that all danger-prone areas be clearly demarcated with visible signage to prevent accidents during the puja.
The DC reviewed the repair work on approach roads leading to the ghats and directed JUSCO and JNAC to fill potholes and level uneven patches to facilitate smooth movement of devotees. He also asked the electricity department to ensure uninterrupted power supply and proper lighting arrangements at all ghats during the evening and morning offerings.
The Deputy Commissioner further instructed the District Transport Officer and DSP (Traffic) to coordinate traffic management and ensure adequate parking arrangements near the major ghats to avoid congestion. He also directed deployment of police personnel and volunteers for crowd management and security, particularly during the main Arghya offerings when footfall is highest.
Satyarthi emphasized that all public amenities, including drinking water, medical assistance, toilets, and waste disposal, must be in place before the festival begins. Health officials were instructed to deploy medical teams with first-aid facilities at major ghats, while the fire department was asked to remain on standby with rescue boats and emergency equipment.
Appealing to citizens and devotees, the Deputy Commissioner said that Chhath Puja is a festival of faith, discipline, and cleanliness, and that collective cooperation from the public and the administration is essential to maintain its sanctity. He urged devotees to follow safety guidelines, avoid entering restricted or deep-water zones, and to help keep the ghats clean.
ADM (Law and Order) Bhagirath Prasad stated that all departments are working in close coordination to ensure a safe and peaceful celebration. SDM Dhalbhum Chandrajeet Singh added that continuous monitoring of the arrangements is being carried out and teams have been instructed to remain alert until the conclusion of the festival.
With these comprehensive measures in place, the district administration aims to ensure that this year’s Chhath Puja is celebrated with devotion, discipline, and complete safety, reflecting the spirit of unity and cultural harmony for which Jamshedpur is known.
