Sona Devi University celebrates Statehood Day

Jamshedpur, Nov 15: Sona Devi University celebrated the 25th Jharkhand State Foundation Day with enthusiasm today, hosting a series of cultural and academic events to mark the state’s silver jubilee.

At the Vivekananda Auditorium, Chancellor Prabhakar Singh urged students and faculty to work with honesty, dedication and collective responsibility to drive Jharkhand’s progress.

Paying tribute to Dharti Aba Birsa Munda on his 150th birth anniversary, he reminded the audience of the sacrifices made during the formation of the state and called for efforts to strengthen education, healthcare and industry.

Registrar Dr. Gulab Singh Azad highlighted the historical journey of Jharkhand and recalled the contributions of Tilka Manjhi, Budhu Bhagat, Sidho-Kanhu and Phulo-Jhano.

He stressed the state’s untapped potential, especially in tourism-based industries, and urged students to uphold their rights and stand against injustice.

The celebrations featured a poem recital by Sanskrit Department’s Kumari Nikita, an informative talk by Mathematics faculty Krishnendu Dutta, and a folk dance performance by student Gayatri and her team.

Pharmacy student Kaushalendra Yadav also shared his views on the state’s development.

As part of the week-long observance, the university organised essay, poster-making and rangoli competitions.

Anshu Kumari won the essay contest, Rahul Nayak topped the poster competition, while Lakshmi Murmu, Sangeeta Baske and Seema Mahato jointly secured first place in rangoli.

The programme began with floral tributes to Birsa Munda and concluded with the national anthem, as the university celebrated both the state’s Foundation Day and the legendary leader’s 150th birth anniversary.
