Sister-in-law’s murder: Brother-in-law acquitted for lack of evidence

Jamshedpur: In a significant development, the court of ADJ-2 Abhash Verma, presiding over the murder case of Leelamuni Melgandi, resident of Khairwani Samu Tola in the Govindpur police station area, acquitted the accused brother-in-law Sudesh Melgandi on Tuesday, extending the benefit of doubt. The court’s decision came after a thorough examination of the case, which included testimonies from a total of 9 individuals.

The tragic incident, dated April 25, 2019, unfolded as Suresh Melgandi, the uncle and father-in-law of the deceased Leelamuni Melgandi, filed an FIR at the Govindpur police station. According to the report, the deceased’s husband, Somay Melgandi, served as an ASI in Palamu. On the fateful day, April 25, 2019, around noon, while Leelamuni was teaching her child at home, Sudesh Melgandi allegedly attacked her from behind with an axe, causing fatal injuries to her neck and mouth. The immediate result was Leelamuni’s tragic demise on the spot. Subsequently, the police arrested the accused brother-in-law Sudesh Melgandi and remanded him to jail.
