Jamshedpur, April 29: The authorized union of Tata Steel, the Tata Workers Union, convened a crucial meeting of its office-bearers at a company’s guest house in Bistupur to deliberate on the ongoing wage revision process.

The meeting provided an in-depth review of current developments and future prospects concerning the much-anticipated agreement.

Addressing the gathering, Union president Sanjeev Chaudhary shared comprehensive insights into the progress of negotiations with the management.
He revisited the outcomes of the previous three wage revision settlements, offering context to the current discussions.

He highlighted that the upcoming agreement would cover approximately 7,500 employees under the New Series (NS) category and nearly 3,000 employees in the old grades.
Union members expressed growing pressure from employees and committee members for a favourable grade revision, urging the leadership to secure a beneficial deal for all sections of the workforce.

Reflecting on past agreements, the President noted that the 2012 wage revision pact was signed for a period of six years with a Minimum Guaranteed Benefit (MGB) of 18.25 percent.
This was followed by the 2019 agreement, which spanned seven years and carried an MGB of 12.75 percent.
He further disclosed that the current proposal submitted to the management seeks an eight-year settlement, with a suggested increase of 7.5 percent in MGB for employees in the old grades. Notably, no proposal has been made to enhance the point value of Dearness Allowance (DA) for employees under the NS grade.
The Union president affirmed that, following the deliberations, a revised proposal would be presented to the management with the objective of securing a more favourable wage revision outcome.
During the meeting, office-bearers unanimously extended their support to the union’s top leadership, including President Sanjeev Chaudhary (Tunnu), General Secretary Satish Singh, and Deputy President Shailesh Singh, expressing confidence in their efforts to achieve a satisfactory agreement.
Among those present were Vice Presidents Shahnawaz Alam, Sanjay Singh, and Sanjeev Tiwari, Assistant Secretary Shyam Babu, Ajay Chaudhary, and several other key members of the union.
