Shibu Soren supports Bihar CM’s call for liquor ban in Jharkhand

Jamshedpur, Sept. 12: Former Chief Minister and JMM leader Shibu Soren on Monday supported Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar’s call for banning sale and consumption of alcohol in Jharkhand.

Interacting with the media at Circuit House, the senior JMM leader said that ban has brought fruitful results in Bihar similarly the Jharkhand government must consider the ban on sale and consumption of alcohol here too. He said that if the decision is aimed for welfare of the State there is no harm in implementing it.

On Saturday, Nitish Kumar during his visit to the city had reiterated his demand to ban liquor in Jharkhand too. The Bihar CM has been demanding the ban in Jharkhand as well the rest of the country.

Soren, while talking to the reporters here, said: “Our state is equally affected from the liquor menace with families falling prey due to addiction.

We need to educate the people and Government can take steps in this regard”.

The senior leader took a brief halt in the city on his way to attend a function at Ghatshila to mark Karma festival.

It may be mentioned the consumption of alcohol is also a part of rituals and ceremonies in tribal communities of Jharkhand, which make up nearly 28% of the state’s total population of 3.5 crore as per the 2011 census. However, the BJP has been terming the demand as political tool to gain millage.

However, when questioned over the release of RJD strongman Mohammad Shahabuddin from jail, Soren said that the bail has been granted by the Court and its decision must be respected. The court has taken its due course of time to grant the bail so there should not be any question over it.
