Ranchi: In a major crackdown, Ranchi Police has busted a sex racket operating out of Om Girls Hostel in the Lalpur police station area. The action was taken following a tip-off received by the police about illegal activities being run from the hostel premises.
DIG cum Ranchi SSP Chandan Kumar Sinha said that secret information was received about running a prostitution racket in the hostel. Action has been taken on the basis of information. Police investigation is going on. All the girls detained will be questioned, so that other people associated with this racket and its entire network can be traced. Police say that soon this entire gang will be exposed. According to information received from sources, all the girls are from outside. In the preliminary investigation, it has come to light that people used to contact them through WhatsApp.
Acting swiftly on the information, a joint police team conducted a surprise raid at the location. During the operation, 10 girls were taken into custody for questioning. According to initial findings, the girls were allegedly being sent from the hostel to different locations across the city for solicitation.
The police are now conducting detailed interrogations to trace the larger network behind the racket and identify other individuals involved. Officials believe that the girls may have been trafficked or lured into the operation and are focusing on uncovering the kingpins running the operation from behind the scenes.
The raid was carried out in the presence of City DSP, Kotwali DSP, officers from Lalpur and Kotwali police stations, and several other senior district officials. Authorities say further arrests are likely in the coming days as the investigation progresses.
Police sources indicated that this is likely part of a bigger trafficking and exploitation ring, and the current operation may be the beginning of a wider clean-up in the city.
