Seraikela: In a bid to ensure road safety and streamline traffic movement, the Seraikela police administration launched a special enforcement drive against illegal parking across the district. Intensive checks were carried out in various police station areas, busy marketplaces, and along major roads, targeting vehicles parked unlawfully and dangerously along the roadside.
Taking a tough stance against violators, police penalised several motorists for flouting traffic regulations by parking on main roads and in congested zones. Fines were imposed on the spot, while several vehicles were towed away to police stations.
Officials said unchecked roadside parking has become a major cause of traffic congestion and increases the risk of road accidents. It also obstructs the movement of emergency services such as ambulances and fire brigades, causing inconvenience to the public.
The Superintendent of Police said making the town congestion-free and preventing road accidents remain top priorities. He warned that illegal parking would not be tolerated and affirmed that the special drive will continue in the coming days.
Police have also cautioned shopkeepers to ensure customers park their vehicles in an organised manner. Legal action will be taken against encroachments on footpaths and roads, including unauthorised parking or storage of goods.
People have been urged to cooperate in maintaining traffic discipline and report instances of illegal parking through the traffic helpline.
