Jharkhand Sholay Drama: Youth Climbs 200-Foot Mobile Tower in Giridih Demanding Marriage With Girlfriend

Giridih (Jharkhand) (IANS): In a scene mirroring the iconic ‘Veeru’ character from the blockbuster movie Sholay, a youth in Giridih district climbed a nearly 200-foot-high mobile tower on Monday morning to demand that his family arrange his marriage to his girlfriend. The high-voltage drama triggered widespread panic and drew huge crowds to the spot.

The incident took place in Motileda village under the jurisdiction of the Bengabad police station in Giridih district.

Locals reported that the youth, identified as Sanjay Rajak, scaled the tower early in the morning. From his perch, he declared that he would not come down until his family agreed to his marriage demands.

A youth in Jharkhand’s Giridih district created high-voltage drama on Monday by climbing a 200-foot mobile tower to demand that his family marry him to his girlfriend

The sight of Rajak atop the towering structure caused immediate alarm in the village, drawing hundreds of residents to the site within a short time. Fearing a fatal fall, villagers quickly alerted the local authorities.

A team from the Bengabad police station rushed to the scene and launched a rescue operation. Police personnel, villagers, and local elders used loudspeakers to repeatedly appeal to Rajak to climb down safely. Rajak, however, remained adamant and continued to insist on an immediate marriage arrangement.

This incident marks the latest in a string of similar high-drama episodes across Jharkhand in recent days.

On Sunday, a woman in the Gomoh area of Dhanbad district scaled a mobile tower to demand the release of her arrested boyfriend. A day before that, in the Nimiaghat area of Giridih, a married man spent nearly seven hours atop a tower, creating a massive public spectacle that required intensive police intervention.

Officials noted that this marks the fourth tower-climbing incident in Jharkhand within the last 15 days, highlighting a bizarre, emotionally charged trend that continues to exhaust police and administrative resources.

After several hours of intense persuasion, police personnel and respected local residents finally convinced Rajak to descend safely. Officers then escorted him to the police station and summoned his family members for counselling and further discussions.
