Seraikela, August 30: Haritalika Teej was observed by women for peace and prosperity in their families and sustenance of the bond of marriage. Young, unmarried girls too observed fast on the occasion of Haritalika Teej to appease Lord Shiva for a suitable groom. Women offered seasonal fruits and other traditional items during their prayers to Lord Shiva and Ma Parvati. They listened to the readings from Haritalika Teej Katha. Tradition has it that fasting during Haritalika Teej on the Tritiya Tithi of Bhadrapad Shukla Paksh ensures marriage bliss. For unmarried girls, fasting on the occasion pleases Lord Shiva and they are blessed with good grooms.
