Seraikela, June 19: A meeting focused on skill development was held at Shantikunj of Saraswati Shishu Mandir High School in Seraikela, where distinguished guest Shashidhar Acharya, former director of Seraikela Chhau and recipient of the prestigious Padma Shri award, was present. The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp and prayers, followed by an introduction of the esteemed guests by the school principal, Parthasarathi Acharya.
During the gathering, Rakesh Acharya, a Chhau artist and retired teacher from Kendriya Vidyalaya, shared his perspective on Chhau as a global subject rather than being limited to a specific area. He emphasized that Seraikela Chhau is the life essence of Seraikela and encouraged the students to embrace this art form as a part of their identity.
Shashidhar Acharya, honored with the Padma Shri award and renowned for his directorial contributions to Seraikela Chhau, discussed the inclusion of subjects like song, drama, and music in the new National Education Policy. He highlighted that art resides within every individual and is intricately connected to various aspects of human life. He further explained how art plays a significant role in shaping and enriching one’s life. To illustrate the importance of this art form, Shashidhar Acharya presented songs and Chhau dance performances to students of classes IX and X. The event witnessed the presence of all the teachers, as well as the Chairman of the School Management Committee, Ramanath Acharya, Treasurer Prasad Mahato, Deputy Principal Tushar Kant, and his spouse.
