Jamshedpur: A 30-year-old woman died by suicide in the Govindpur police station area, prompting police to launch an investigation into possible domestic discord.
Police identified the deceased as Gyan Kiran, a resident of Anand Nagar in Chhota Govindpur and wife of Shashikant Choudhary.
According to preliminary information, Gyan Kiran and Shashikant got married in 2014 and have three children. Sources said the couple had faced family tensions for the past few months.
Shashikant alleged that his wife had developed a relationship with his nephew. He said that the youth’s father informed him about the matter over the phone. After learning this, Shashikant confronted his wife, but she did not give a clear response. He also claimed that he had earlier informed his in-laws about the issue.
The incident occurred on Monday when Shashikant went out to drop their children to tuition classes. When he returned home, he found the door locked from inside. Despite repeated calls, he received no response. With the help of neighbours, he broke open the door and found his wife hanging.
He alerted the police and informed the woman’s family members. A police team reached the spot, took custody of the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination.
Gyan Kiran’s parental home is in Bokaro, and her family members reached Jamshedpur after receiving the news. They have not issued any formal statement so far.
Police officials said they will determine the exact cause behind the suicide after the post-mortem report and completing the investigation. They are currently examining all angles, including alleged domestic disputes.
