Schemes for journalists promised in India alliance Government: Dr. Ajoy Kumar

Jamshedpur: On the occasion of National Press Day, Dr. Ajoy Kumar, the Indian National Congress candidate from Jamshedpur East, extended warm wishes to journalists and emphasized the crucial role of the media as the “fourth pillar of democracy.” Speaking at the event, Dr. Kumar highlighted the significance of maintaining credibility in journalism, stating that a healthy democracy relies on a free and fair press.

Dr. Kumar noted that while media functions as a vital bridge between the government and society, its effectiveness is occasionally questioned due to perceived biases. “When the press becomes one-sided, it undermines democratic values,” he remarked, emphasizing the importance of impartiality.

Acknowledging the challenges posed by commercial pressures, Dr. Kumar praised journalists for their resilience in upholding societal awareness. However, he cautioned against the pitfalls of the information revolution, where the rush to break news first often leads to the dissemination of incorrect or unverified information, causing societal harm.

“Despite these challenges, the media continues to play an indispensable role in shaping an informed society and strengthening democracy,” he said.

As a gesture of support, Dr. Kumar assured that the India Alliance government, if elected, would introduce welfare schemes specifically for journalists. These initiatives would aim to address the needs and challenges faced by media professionals.
