Saryu Roy takes up drainage issue with Tata Steel VP Chanakya Chaudhary

Mail News Service

Jamshedpur, Feb 15: Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy wrote a letter to the Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President Corporate Services (VP-CS) of Tata Steel Limited informing that over the past three years, the problem of waterlogging during the monsoon season had become quite severe especially in Burmamines, East Plant Colony. Despite some work being done in the area with funds from the District Plan, the efforts were insufficient.

Saryu Roy stated in the letter that during his recent visit to the area, where Tata Steel UISL was carrying out work to raise the drain level, local residents led him on a long tour along the drain’s banks. They explained that although the job was being done by Tata Steel UISL, the drainage problem would not be resolved completely. The MLA, in the course of his inspection, was taken to a location where the then JUSCO had covered the drain for a considerable stretch. However, due to the lack of cleaning of the drain inside, the covered drain was unable to effectively discharge rainwater.

Saryu Roy requested VP-CS to provide directions so that Tata Steel UISL engineers and competent officers could discuss with local residents and ensure proper drainage arrangements after parking was constructed by Tata Steel. Roy mentioned, otherwise, the expenditure incurred on piecemeal work would be futile, and the problem would remain unresolved.
