Jamshedpur: Public sector major GAIL (India) Limited has set a new industrial benchmark by restoring energy stability to the Tata Motors Jamshedpur plant in record time. Facing a severe crisis due to a propane shortage, the plant received Piped Natural Gas (PNG) supply within just nine days of GAIL’s intervention.
Work Completed on a War Footing
This swift initiative not only averted a potential plant shutdown but also ensured uninterrupted industrial operations. GAIL’s team completed the task—which typically takes weeks—in a mere 9 days.
The team worked 24/7 on a war footing to manage the entire process, including:
-
Signing the agreement
-
Laying the pipeline infrastructure
-
Commissioning the gas supply
With this achievement, Tata Motors becomes the second major industrial giant in the region to utilize GAIL’s natural gas, following Tata Steel’s Combi Mill, which has operated on PNG since October 2025.
A Major Step Toward Clean Energy
During the commissioning ceremony, Gauri Shankar Mishra, General Manager and GA-Incharge of GAIL, attributed this success to the coordinated efforts of both GAIL and Tata teams. Senior officials, including Golam Mandal (General Manager, Tata Motors) and Rajat Singh (Town Administration), attended the event.
Mishra further revealed that GAIL is now prioritizing industrial expansion alongside domestic and commercial sectors. The company plans to connect five more major industries to the PNG network within the coming weeks.
