Jamshedpur, Nov 17: The Jamshedpur (East) MLA, Saryu Roy, has demanded that the design, detailed project report (DPR) and traffic survey report of Mango flyover should be reviewed. Roy has said that project, in its present status, will add to the woes of the public and also will become a financial burden on the state government.

In a letter, Roy has advised the secretary of the state road construction department to convene a meeting of the concerned officials and review the Rs 400-crore project’s design, DPR, feasibility report, and traffic survey report before sanctioning it. In his letter Roy has said that though the project has been granted technical and administrative clearance, it has got several shortcomings.

Roy has claimed that more than public welfare the project is being sanctioned to fulfil a political agenda. He has also urged the municipal authorities of Mango to re-scrutinize the flyover project. In his letter to the secretary of the road construction department Roy has also pointed out that the Mango flyover might not be needed at all if two pending projects – Govindpur Anna Chowk-Pipla flyover and the Subarnarekha bridge and road project connecting Litti Chowk and NH 33 – are completed. He has said that these two projects will help reduce traffic congestion in Mango.

He has added that once Kanderbera-Sonari road is converted to four-lane will help reduce frequency of heavy vehicle passing through Mango. He has urged the government officials to take a second look at these other projects before taking a decision on construction of the Mango flyover.
