Kolkata-based actor SusovanSonu Roy recently stepped into cinema with the Bengali film Take Care Bhalobasa, where he plays the character ‘Joy’. This role is part of the film’s narrative and extends his work into a new medium.
In the film, Joy’s character emerges as a connecting element within the story. His presence in different situations influences the mental responses and decisions of other characters, and acts as a mediating bridge during the emotional turns of the plot. The character sometimes appears restrained, sometimes conflicted, and at other times easy and friendly — bringing a range of emotional tones to the story.
Speaking about his preparation for the role, Susovan says his main aim was to present the changing mental states of ‘Joy’ in a believable manner. For this, he worked separately on the subtleties of the character’s behaviour, the expression of emotions, and the uncertainties embedded within relationships. He focused particularly on mental preparation to maintain natural reactions during emotional scenes.
The film marks a new phase in his career, moving toward cinema, though his professional journey had already developed through television and modelling before this. In 2019, he made his television debut with the Akash Aath serial Anandamoyee Maa, where he played the role of a Vaishnav devotee. After that, he worked in serials such as Mohor, Korapakhi, Titli, Khelaghar and Jamuna Dhaki. His negative role opposite Parno Mitra in Korapakhi brought variety to his work.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, when television work slowed down, he turned to modelling and has appeared in advertising campaigns for various brands since 2023, including Holiday Inn, Dabur, Amazon and Big Bazaar.
Susovan was born in Howrah and spent his childhood between Kolkata and Guwahati. Losing his father at an early age has been a significant part of his life. After his father’s death, his mother took on the responsibility of the family. This background influences his personality and approach to work.
Before acting, his engagement with performance came through dance. He trained in Western dance and participated in stage programmes. Later, he completed a commerce degree from Dum Dum Motijheel Rabindra Mahavidyalaya and then received acting training under the guidance of director Pijush Saha.
Additionally, he took part in the Ethnic Elegance 2025 competition, where he was the first runner-up. The competition was conducted in multiple stages, including presentation, ramp walk and interview.
Overall, Susovan’s work appears as a gradual expansion across television, modelling and cinema. His professional activities are spread across different mediums, where he has continued to be associated with various types of roles.
