Saraikela, Dec 14: A meeting of Saraikela-Kharsawan District Sports Association (DSA) and seven-a-Side Football Association was held at the Arjuna Stadium in Saraikela. The two organizations resolved the start the new year with verve and sporting activities and decided to undertake social activities.
During the meeting the members observed silence in respectful homage to senior vice president of DSA late Vishwanath Rath and Kharsawan’s late Raja Pradip Chandra Singhdev. The members in the meeting pledged, ‘Naye Jeevan, Naye Sankalp’ (New Life, New Pledges) and with the oath planned out activities commencing January 2021. In the course of the meeting Chandrabhushan Sharma was inducted into the DSA.
A two day football tourney would be organized on January 7 and 8 while maintaining social distancing. The New Year will see the organization of the Arjuna Cup and Kolhan Cup football championships for men and women. The Arjuna Cup will be dedicated to late Vishwanath Rath while the Kolhan Cup will be dedicated by DC Iqbal Aslam Ansari to the then DDC who did yeomen service for the promotion of sports in the district. The women’s football championship trophy will be dedicated in the name of late Raja Pradip Chandra Singhdev of Saraikela.
A steering committee was formed in the meeting to organize the tourneys smoothly. In the competition, a total of 32 men’s teams will vie for top honours while eight women’s teams will play it out for a final win. The prizes for the Kolhan Cup will include Rs 31,000 and the cup for the winners, Rs 21,000 and a cup for the runners up and Rs 9,000 and a cup each for the teams that finish third and fourth in the men’s segment. For the women’s teams, the winners will take Rs 9,001 and a cup while the runners up team will receive Rs 5,001 and a cup. There will be prizes also for player of the match, player of the series, best goalkeeper and many other individual prizes.
Those who participated in the meeting included Chhotray Kisku, Umesh Singhdev, Md Dildar, Nageshwar Pradhan, Dilip Pradhan, Chandrabhushan Sharma, Pinaki Ranjan, Dr Manoj Singh Munda, Prabhakar Mandal, Uma Kumari, VR Tripathy and Sanjay Kumar Mahto.
Association to delve in social activities
It was decided in the meeting that DSA and Seven-a-side Football Association would, apart from sports, take up social issues. An eye checkup camp will be conducted on December 15 as an initial step towards social activities. The Association also decided to start a clothes bank in which people will be urged to donate their old clothes after washing and sanitizing them. These clothes would be taken to Chandni Chowk and the poor people would be asked to pick their clothes that they would find necessary. On January 25, the Association decided to organize a blood donation camp and each member has been asked to initiate at least five donors. On December 15, a one day free eye checkup and cataract surgery camp would be organized at New Mercy Clinic in Kharsawan.
