Sanjay Sardar is First ST Mayor of Adityapur in 13 Years

Jamshedpur: The results of the Adityapur Municipal Corporation (AMC) election have reaffirmed the BJP’s dominance in the region. Amidst intense speculation of a triangular contest, BJP-backed candidate Sanjay Sardar registered a landslide victory, dismantling the challenge posed by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).

Leadership Returns to ST Category After 13 Years

A significant social highlight of this election is that Adityapur has elected a Mayor from the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category for the first time since 2013. The last person from the ST community to hold this office was Radha Sandil in 2013. Sardar’s victory is being viewed as a major endorsement of the BJP’s influence among the tribal community in this industrial belt.

The Numbers: A Decisive Lead

Sanjay Sardar defeated his closest rival, JMM-backed Bhuglu Soren, by a massive margin of 7,795 votes. Right from the first round of counting on Friday, Sardar maintained a steady lead, which became insurmountable by the fifth and final round.

Official Election Tally:

  • Sanjay Sardar (Winner): 24,615 votes
  • Bhuglu Soren (Runner-up): 16,820 votes

Savitri Leyangi Fails to Make an Impact

The election saw a high-profile entry in Savitri Leyangi, who was backed by former Chief Minister and veteran BJP leader Champai Soren. While many expected her presence to turn the race into a neck-and-neck triangular fight, she struggled to gain momentum and finished a distant third with 7,905 votes.

Celebrations and Priorities

As the final results were announced, the counting center erupted with slogans of “Sanjay Sardar Zindabad.” Supporters celebrated by bursting crackers and distributing sweets. In his victory speech, the newly elected Mayor thanked the voters and the party leadership, stating that his win is a victory for the trust of the people of Adityapur.
