Jamshedpur, Sep 27: Aaruni Jha, a sixth-grade student from Sacred Heart Convent School in Jamshedpur, has achieved remarkable success by winning the gold prize in the junior category of the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition 2024. Her award-winning essay, titled ‘Common Hope, Common Future,’ creatively explores a beach clean-up scenario where she discovers the ability to communicate with sea creatures, delving into their concerns and her responses.

Participants in the competition were encouraged to reflect on how they cope with adversity and the role of community and culture in fostering resilience amid escalating global challenges. Aaruni has demonstrated her writing prowess previously, having won both bronze and gold prizes in earlier editions of the competition.

Established in 1883, the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition is recognized as the world’s oldest international writing contest for schools. Each year, it invites students to engage with themes that resonate with the values of the Commonwealth, promoting an empathetic worldview among the next generation of leaders. The themes often encompass critical issues such as the environment, community, inclusion, youth leadership, and gender equality.

Aaruni Jha’s achievements not only highlight her literary talent but also reflect her commitment to addressing pressing global issues through her writing. Additionally, she has made her mark as a child actor, showcasing her diverse talents beyond the written word.
