Jamshedpur: In a swift operation, the RPF flying squad of Chakradharpur railway division apprehended a mobile phone thief at Tatanagar railway station on Friday morning.

The team also recovered the stolen device from his possession.

The arrested youth has been identified as Rahul Kumar Sinha, a resident of Premnagar under Telco police station limits.

Following the action, he was handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Tatanagar for further legal proceedings.

According to information, the RPF Flying Squad was on routine patrol and security checks across the platforms when a passenger approached them with a complaint about a stolen mobile phone.

Acting promptly, the team intensified surveillance and began scanning the station premises for suspects.

During the search, the behaviour of one youth appeared suspicious. He was detained for questioning, and upon frisking, the team recovered a Nokia mobile phone reported stolen moments earlier.

The accused was brought to the RPF office where, during preliminary interrogation, he admitted to stealing the device.

He was then handed over to the GRP, which is now verifying his criminal background and possible links to previous theft cases.

Railway authorities said that security arrangements at Tatanagar station have been further strengthened in view of the festive rush and increased passenger movement.

The RPF flying squad continues to maintain strict vigil to curb thefts, snatching, and other criminal activities.

The prompt action of the RPF has boosted passenger confidence in station security.

Officials said such operations will continue to ensure a safe environment across the station premises.
