Rotary Steel City honours Ex-armymen

Jamshedpur, Jan. 15: Army Day is celebrated on 15 January every year in India in recognition of Field Marshal K M. Cariappa’s taking over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from General Francis Butcher, the last British Commander-in-Chief of India, on 15 January 1949. To mark and commemorate this day, Rotary Club of Steel City decided to honour some of the ex-armymen in order to show the appreciation for their services and valour at a function held in a city hotel on Monday.

Ex-armymen who were honoured include Hawaldar Ramesh Singh 1971 war, Hawaldar Harendu Tiwary 1999 Kargil war, Chief Petty Officer Abhay Singh 1999 Kargil, Petty Officer Harendu Sharma 1999 Kargil, JWO Dr Kamal Kumar Shukla 1999 Kargil, Sergeant A K Srivastava 1999 Kargil.

Officers from Ex-Soldiers Service Association were also felicitated at the event. Officers including JWO Brij Kishore Singh, Petty Officer Sushil Kumar Singh, Petty Officer Rajiv Ranjan, Chief Petty Officer Manoj Thakur, Hawaldar Dinesh Singh and Petty Officer Shivshankar Chakravarty were honoured.
