Jamshedpur, July 10: The conclave of nonferrous metallurgists and practitioners concluded its 20th Edition with satellite session on application products and three technical sessions presenting 20 papers by notable organisations like CSIR-NML, HINDALCO, ABSTC, MECON, VEDANTA and many others.
Day commenced with presentation of technical posters by students from CSIR-NML, Andhra University, BIT Mesra, NIT Jamshedpur, IIEST, JNARDDC, ITER-SOA and were judged for their technical content cum presentation skills by R&D professionals.
Satellite session began with the scientific elucidation in designing of aluminium refining cells by Prof. Rajiv Shekhar, IIT Kanpur who stressed on intimate association of R&D, industry and academia in coming up with working models of cooperation.
HINDALCO suggested on replacing steel by aluminium alloys for LPG cylinders by which they have achieved 5 ton successful production in fewer trials. Technical papers were deliberated in parallel sessions chaired by eminent researchers/academicians from CSIR, NIT and VEDANTA.
Papers presented covered the subject on waste remediation, energy reduction/management, corrosion protection, beneficiation of ores, breakthrough in utilising red mud, and improving slag utilisation.
Dr. R.N.Parbat, the former CMD, INDAL, stressed on the key issue of energy and assessment management, citing it to be the core strength to have sustainable unperturbed growth. Final session of technical paper presentation had research works covered in the areas of furnace oil optimisation, ilemenite leaching, treatment of uranium mine water and others.
The valedictory session chaired by Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Chief Scientist, CSIR-NML and Chairman, Editorial Committee, concluded with exchange of views by delegates and awarding the best papers in poster and oral categories. There were three papers awarded in each category by the panel of judges.
