Jamshedpur: The city witnessed an atmosphere of joyous celebration and spiritual fervour as the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), along with various social organisations, organised the annual Rath Yatra with grandeur on Friday.
The grand procession, covering nearly four kilometers, began from Bistupur Ram Mandir and concluded at Dhalbhum Club in Sakchi, captivating thousands of devotees and onlookers who gathered to witness the vibrant spectacle.
Rath Yatra, also known as the Chariot Festival, holds deep significance in Hindu culture, symbolising the journey of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra to their aunt’s residence, the Gundicha Temple. Beyond its religious importance, the festival serves as a unifying force, drawing people from different communities together in celebration of shared spiritual heritage.
The festivities began early with meticulous preparations. The beautifully adorned chariot stood as the centrepiece of the event, decorated with colourful flowers, intricate artwork, and vivid drapes that reflected the devotion of the organisers and volunteers. As the procession commenced, the rhythmic beating of traditional drums and resonant chants of “Hare Krishna, Hare Rama” filled the streets with a divine atmosphere.
Devotees, clad in traditional attire, sang devotional songs and offered prayers as they reverently pulled the chariot along the designated route. The celebration drew participation from all age groups and backgrounds, transforming the city streets into a vibrant tapestry of faith and fellowship.
The event became a platform for spreading messages of communal peace and harmony. Representatives from various religious and social organisations walked shoulder to shoulder in the procession, underscoring the spirit of inclusiveness, brotherhood, and mutual respect.
A devotee attending the Rath Yatra shared her joy, saying, “The Rath Yatra is a wonderful occasion that brings people together, irrespective of caste, creed, or religion. It is a time when we celebrate the values of love, compassion, and unity. Witnessing this grand procession fills my heart with immense gratitude.”
To ensure the well-being of participants, organisers arranged food and drinking water along the route and distributed prasad to all present, reflecting the spirit of sharing and selfless service that accompanies the festival each year.
As the chariot reached its destination at Dhalbhum Club, devotees gathered for the concluding rituals, expressing their heartfelt gratitude for the blessings of Lord Jagannath. The celebrations drew to a close amid an air of spiritual fulfillment and collective goodwill, leaving a lasting impression of harmony and devotion across the city.
