JSCA International Stadium gets ODI match after 3 year gap
Ranchi: After a gap of three years, international one-day cricket is set to return to the JSCA International Cricket Stadium in Ranchi. The stadium will host the first ODI of the series between India and South Africa on November 30. This will mark the first international ODI at the venue since October 9, 2022, when India played against the same opponent and secured a seven-wicket victory.
A source from the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) has hinted that the stadium might also get a match in January next year. New Zealand is scheduled to tour India in 2026, with a series consisting of three ODIs and five T20 matches, increasing the possibility of Ranchi hosting another game.
JSCA Stadium’s ODI History
So far, the JSCA International Stadium has hosted six ODIs. India has emerged victorious in three matches, suffered defeat in two, while one match was declared abandoned. Besides ODIs, the venue has also witnessed three Test matches and four T20 internationals. In women’s cricket, the stadium has hosted three ODIs and three T20 matches.
The last ODI at this venue took place on October 9, 2022, when India defeated South Africa by seven wickets. The return of ODI cricket to Ranchi has brought immense excitement among cricket enthusiasts.
Former Ranji player and cricket expert Ajat Shatru expressed his delight, stating, “This is a moment of pride not just for Ranchi but for the entire Jharkhand cricket community. After three years, an international match is finally being hosted here. If reports are to be believed, Ranchi may get more matches in the near future, especially with New Zealand touring India next year.”
Local cricket fans have also welcomed the news with enthusiasm. Prashant, a resident of Harmu, said, “This is fantastic news! We are passionate about cricket, and getting to see our favorite players in action in our hometown is a huge delight. We just hope that Ranchi gets to host at least one match every year.”
