Jamshedpur, April 24: To expedite the redevelopment of Tatanagar railway station, the Railway Land Department has launched a large-scale encroachment removal campaign. In the first phase of this operation, a total of 20 structures including both kutcha and pucca houses were demolished near Gaadivan Patti, close to the Imambara in Kitadih Panchayat.
Notices had been issued earlier, prompting most residents to vacate the premises ahead of time. On Wednesday morning, around 10:45 AM, the demolition was carried out under the supervision of the Railway Land Officer, assisted by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and local police.

Of the total, 18 houses near the Imambara and two huts near the Jagannath Temple were brought down using JCB machines. Even the puja samagri ghar, a structure adjacent to the temple used by the priest and equipped with a toilet, was also demolished. This particular building had been constructed separately after the temple and was not part of the original temple structure.
According to Railway AIN Rajesh Kumar Verma, the cleared area would soon be utilized for the construction of two-storey and four-storey railway officers’ quarters as part of the station’s modernization project.
The demolition drive was carried out under tight security. Around 10 jawans of the Jharkhand Police, RPF Sub Inspector Rajveer Kumar, Women RPF personnel, RPF SE Bablu Singh, Railway IOW Ranjit Kumar, and officers from Parsudih Police Station were deployed to ensure smooth execution of the operation.
This was the first phase of the encroachment removal drive. Railways have confirmed that similar campaigns would soon be conducted in areas surrounding the station, as part of the current redevelopment initiative.
