Jamshedpur, Oct 25: A day after Singhbhum and Jamshedpur Chamber held talks with the Sub-Divisional Officer (Dalbhum), Alok Kumar over skyrocketing pulse prices were administration imposed stock limit and pulses control order warning traders not to hoard the commodity, officials carried out raids across the city and seized about 500 quintal of pulses illegally hoarded in Kadma and Sakchi bazaar on Sunday.
BDO of Jamshedpur, Parul Singh said, “As per administration orders we have started action. Our teams raided godowns and shops and seized illegally stored 500 quintal of pulses�.
Singh said that dealers and shopkeepers were indulging in artificial shortage of cereals and pulses for illegal profit-making through hoarding. Some of them are selling these products at unreasonable prices.
She noted that traders cannot stock huge quantities of food under the Essential Commodities Act. As per
the Act, all shops must display the stock of food grains and prices of food grains.
The department would carry on the inspection at shops and warehouses and will initiate action against shops that fail to display a proper list and maintain stock registers.
He asked the traders to display a board in front of their shops about the daily stock and prices of food grains.
