Jamshedpur, Dec 1: President Droupadi Murmu will lay the foundation stone for three major new railway lines from Bangdiposi station in Odisha under Kharagpur division of South Eastern Railway on December 7. The projects, which involve laying 227 km of new track across Jharkhand and Odisha, are part of an extensive rail expansion plan aimed at improving connectivity in the region.

The new railway lines include the Chakulia-Buramara line, the Badampahar-Kyonjhar line, and the Gurumahisani-Bangdiposi line. The total investment for these projects will be ₹5603 crore, which will also fund the construction of 447 small and large bridges and three tunnels across 18 stations along the three routes. These improvements are expected to alleviate the congestion on the Howrah-Mumbai and Odisha routes via Tatanagar-Kharagpur, enhancing passenger train operations in the region.

The President’s program has already been coordinated with the Mayurbhanj district administration in Odisha and the Kharagpur division. Preparations for the event are underway, with work on the helipad in Rairangpur, Draupadi Murmu’s native village, already begun. The ceremony, initially scheduled for October 23, had been postponed due to Cyclone Dana.

The South Eastern Railway Zone, along with the Odisha Government, has started the process of land investigation and acquisition for the new lines. Once completed, the new tracks are expected to significantly ease traffic and improve connectivity for passengers traveling between Jharkhand, Odisha, and Bengal. The new line from Chakulia to Buramara, spanning 59.96 km, will cost Rs.1459 crore, while the Badampahar-Keonjhar line will cover 82.6 km at a cost of Rs.1875 crore. The Gurumahisani-Bangdiposi line, extending over 85.6 km, will be built at an investment of Rs.2269 crore. These projects aim to provide modern infrastructure, including overbridges, stations, and other facilities, to further support the growing railway network in the region.
