Pregnant elephant found dead in Jharkhand’s Jabanggutu Forest

Chaibasa: A pregnant elephant was discovered dead in the Jabanggutu forest of Padampur in Tonto block. Villagers, who were passing by, spotted the lifeless animal and immediately informed the forest department.

A team from the forest department arrived on the scene and conducted a post-mortem examination. Subsequently, a pit was dug nearby using a JCB machine, and the elephant was buried. Forest Division Officer (FDO) Chaibasa, Aditya Narayan, stated that the post-mortem report has been sent for forensic analysis. “The exact cause of death will be determined after receiving the forensic report, and appropriate action will follow,” he added.

According to local villagers, another elephant was seen unconscious near the deceased elephant but later regained consciousness and moved into the forest. A large crowd gathered at the site to witness the somber scene.

The villagers initially opposed the burial of the elephant on the site, citing its proximity to their farmland. However, forest department officials, along with the local Munda, managed to pacify the villagers and proceeded with the burial.
