Jamshedpur : On the basis of leads provided by recently surrendered hardcore CPI-Maoist rebel Kanhu Munda, East Singhbhum police along with CRPF team have recovered huge cache of arms and ammunitions from a hill in Maoists-infested Ghorabandha police station area of Ghatshila sub-division.
The seizure included a self-loading rifle (SLR), three 303 rifles and several rounds of ammunitions beside .315 regular rifles, one country made rifle and three 7.65 pistol. The recovery was made following revelations made by Kanhu during His probe.
Police are probing zonal commander Kanhu, along with FograMunda, Bhoglu Singh Munda, JitenMunda, Shanker and Kajal. The Maoists rebel had surrendered at Naxal hot bed native village Jiyan under Gurabandha police station area in Ghatsila sub-division recently.
Seven major Maoist leaders altogether carried Rs 43 lakh rewards on their heads. Among the seven, police said Kanhu Munda and Fogra Munda, who were carrying rewards of Rs 25 lakh and Rs 10 lakh on their heads respectively.
Addressing the media, senior superintendent of police, Anoop T Mathew said that the fire-arms and ammunitions were seized from Ghorabandha at the inputs given by Kanhu.
“During interrogation he had revealed that there were at least three such points where the rebel squad belonging to the CPI-Maoist would keep the fire-arms concealed,” said Mathew.
The police and paramilitary forces have also beefed up the naxal infested areas of East Singhbhum district. Sources informed that the police are frisking commuters in the bordering areas.
At some places common people are also being interrogated by police and paramilitary force on suspicion. Forces have been deployed in strategic locations.
The district police have maintained that combing operation in the Maoist infested areas of the district will continue as usual and there is no let up whatsoever.
