Jamshedpur, Nov 18: Birsanagar police have solved the sensational Rs 10 lakh robbery that took place on November 10 at Vishwakarma Engineering, arresting two accused and sending them to judicial custody.
The arrested have been identified as Ajit Behra and Babu Sardar alias Nepu.
Police have recovered Rs 1.23 lakh in cash, a country-made pistol, live cartridges, a scooter, a helmet, and a mobile phone purchased from the looted amount.
City SP Kumar Shivashish, while addressing a press conference today, said that the prime accused, Ajit Behra, was an employee of Vishwakarma Engineering and had a past criminal record.
Taking advantage of his knowledge of the company’s operations, he planned the robbery along with four accomplices.
Police have arrested Ajit and one associate, while two others are still absconding.
During initial interrogation, the accused denied the claim of robbing Rs 10.25 lakh.
They stated that the robbery amount was around Rs 4.5 lakh, out of which Rs 1.23 lakh has been recovered.
The remaining sum is believed to be with the two absconding criminals, for whom police are conducting continuous raids.
Police officials believe that Ajit’s familiarity with the workplace, its functioning, and the timing of employee movements made it easy for the gang to execute the plan.
With the arrest of the remaining accused, the police expect to expose the entire network behind the robbery.
