Police arrest two persons for trying to extort ‘rangdari’

Jamshedpur : Police on Monday arrested two persons for allegedly trying to extort `rangdari’ of Rs 1 crore by opening fire for scaring a crusher plant owner at Dhatkidih in Bistupur.

Those arrested were identified as Asarfi Khan alias Firoz (20), a resident of Jawaharnagar in Mango and a 17-year-old boy.

In this connection, the victim Nisar Ahmed, a resident of B block in Dhatkidih had lodged a complaint with the Bistupur thana on Saturday night.

The police have seized a pistol of 7.62 bore, a live cartridge, an empty cartridge of 7.62 bore, a bike and a smartphone used in making calls to the crusher plant owner.

Revealing about the breakthrough, superintendent of police (city) Prabhat Kumar said at a press conference that a unidentified criminal had been making calls to Ahmed who has crusher plants in Chandil.

“He demanded Rs 1 crore as `rangdari while making the call three-four days ago and had intimidated with dire consequences if failed to oblige. On Saturday night, unidentified criminals had fired a shot in the wall of Ahmed’s house,” said Kumar.
