Ramgarh: Jharkhand Police arrested seven individuals on Wednesday for the brutal murder of Giridih Sub-Registrar Baleshwar Patel in Ramgarh district. Investigators also recovered a blood-stained brick and a bamboo stick that the attackers allegedly used to commit the crime.
The murder took place on Tuesday morning in Balsagara village, under the jurisdiction of the Mandu police station, following a long-standing dispute over 11 decimals of land. All seven accused are now in judicial custody.
SIT Cracks the Case
Briefing journalists, Ramgarh Superintendent of Police Mukesh Kumar Lunayat stated that the fatal assault erupted while Patel was inspecting a borewell and a submersible pump installed on the disputed plot during his Hul Diwas holiday. The attackers ambushed Patel, inflicting severe injuries. Though rushed to a nearby hospital, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Following a formal complaint by the victim’s wife, Rita Devi, the Mandu police registered a murder case. Recognizing the high-profile nature of the crime, the SP immediately constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the supervision of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer.
The SIT launched coordinated raids leveraging technical evidence, video footage, local intelligence, and eyewitness accounts to track down and capture the seven suspects.
Police identified the arrested individuals as:
- Santosh Kumar Sao alias Pampam
- Sadhu Sao alias Gyani
- Shakuntala Devi
- Ruby Kumari
- Vinay Kumar
- Pooja Kumari
- Laxmi Devi alias Dolly Kumari
Forensic Team Collects Evidence
In addition to arresting the suspects, the police seized the murder weapons from their possession. A specialized team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Ranchi visited the crime scene to collect crucial scientific evidence. SP Lunayat emphasized that the police are continuing their investigation and will take further stringent legal actions as more facts emerge.
