Jamshedpur: The BJP has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the district administration that if the police fail to arrest all the accused in the Himanshu Singh murder case, register an FIR against errant police officers on duty, and clamp down on city crime, the party will enforce a “Jamshedpur Bandh” on Friday, July 3. Ahead of the shutdown, BJP workers with residents will hold massive torchlight processions in various parts of the city on Thursday evening, July 2.
A delegation of the party submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum district on Wednesday, expressing concern over the collapsing law and order situation in the Steel City. The BJP city unit is protesting the murder of Singh outside a nightclub in Bistupur allegedly in the presence of police personnel.
City Turning into Crime Hub: BJP
In its memorandum, BJP leaders noted that Jamshedpur is rapidly transforming into a hub for organized crime. The party highlighted the rampant rise in murders, broad-daylight stabbings, extortion, illegal lotteries, drug trafficking, and chain-snatching incidents that have left ordinary citizens living in fear.
The BJP has put forth four primary demands to the administration:
- Immediate arrest of all culprits involved in the Himanshu Singh murder case within 48 hours, aligned with the grieving family’s wishes.
- Fast-tracking the trial to ensure swift and exemplary punishment for the killers.
- A high-level probe into the role of the police officers present at the scene, followed by a formal FIR and legal action against them for negligence.
- A city-wide special crackdown on illegal drug networks and criminal gangs to restore public faith in law enforcement.
Sanjeev Sinha Attacks Hemant Soren Govt
Speaking to the media, BJP Mahanagar President Sanjeev Sinha launched a scathing attack on the ruling alliance. “On one hand, Chief Minister Hemant Soren beats the drum of a de-addiction campaign. On the other hand, his government is rapidly expanding liquor shops across Jharkhand and allowing them to operate until 11 PM. What kind of anti-addiction model is this?” Sinha questioned.
