Palamu: A tragic double death has shaken the Sua Kaudiya area of Palamu after a young man allegedly murdered his cousin sister before taking his own life just hours later.
The incident began late Sunday night within the limits of the Sadar police station. According to investigators, the accused, Bittu Kumar Singh, engaged in a heated argument with his cousin, Khushboo Kumari. Khushboo had been residing at her maternal uncle’s home to pursue her studies.
Fatal Confrontation
Police reports indicate the dispute escalated over a suspected love affair. In a fit of rage, Bittu allegedly attacked Khushboo multiple times with a tangi (axe), killing her instantly inside the house.
Witnesses stated that Bittu fled the scene immediately after the attack, reportedly declaring to family members that he intended to end his own life.
Discovery of the Bodies
On Monday morning, authorities recovered Bittu’s mutilated body from a nearby railway track, confirming he had jumped in front of a train.
Sadar police station in-charge Lalji arrived at the scene to oversee the initial investigation. “Preliminary findings suggest a dispute related to a love affair triggered the crime,” Lalji stated. “It appears the man killed his cousin and later died by suicide, likely driven by guilt or fear.”
Ongoing Investigation
Police have taken the following steps:
- Evidence Collection: Officers seized the axe used in the murder and are examining mobile call records.
- Post-Mortem: Both bodies have been sent to Medinirai Medical College Hospital for examination.
- Family Statements: Investigators are recording statements from the grief-stricken relatives to establish the exact sequence of events.
The tragedy has left the local community in shock as the family mourns the loss of two young members in a single night.
