Jamshedpur: The Kadma police have arrested Bunty Guha, a resident of Parsudih Golpahari, for allegedly demanding extortion money from several city businesses in the name of Sonu Singh, a convicted criminal involved in the murder of JMM leader Upendra Singh.
The police recovered a country-made pistol, two live bullets, and a mobile phone used for making extortion calls from the arrested accused. Bunty Guha is accused of demanding ₹50,000 in extortion money from Vaishnavi Jewellers located in Kadma. He is also believed to have targeted multiple other businesses, including Jamshedpur Furniture and Jalaram Jewelers, with similar threats.
SSP Kishore Kaushal, while addressing the media at the SSP office, stated that Bunty Guha is a notorious criminal with a history of involvement in extortion and robbery. He was previously imprisoned for similar offenses and had recently been released on bail. Following his release, Guha resumed his criminal activities, extorting money from city businessmen under the guise of Sonu Singh’s name.
On Friday, the police received a tip-off about Bunty Guha’s presence in Kadma to collect extortion money. Acting swiftly, they apprehended him and confiscated the pistol and bullets. The police also discovered a diary containing the names and contact numbers of several local business owners, suggesting that he may have been targeting more victims.
A case has been registered at Kadma police station under the Arms Act, and further investigations are underway to trace other members of the extortion gang. Bunty Guha has been remanded to judicial custody after his interrogation.
