No Petrol or Diesel Shortage in Jamshedpur, Panic Buying Caused Rush: Dist Admn

Jamshedpur: The East Singhbhum district administration on Thursday clarified that petrol and diesel stocks remain adequate across the district and urged residents not to believe rumours or resort to panic buying.

Deputy Commissioner Rajiv Ranjan and Senior Superintendent of Police Piyush Pandey chaired a high-level meeting at the Collectorate Auditorium with representatives of oil companies, petrol pump operators and the Petrol Pump Association to review the situation.

Fuel Supply Operating Normally

Officials from Indian Oil Corporation, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, and Jio-bp informed the administration that fuel stocks and supply chains are functioning normally and that deliveries continue without disruption.

Officials said confusion among consumers and panic buying over the past two days pushed sales at urban petrol pumps to nearly twice their normal daily volume.

Rajiv Ranjan said the district has sufficient stocks of petrol and diesel and that there is no reason for concern. He asked residents to buy fuel only according to their actual needs and to ignore unverified messages circulating through informal channels.

Panic Buying Created Artificial Pressure

The administration observed that the unnecessary rush at petrol pumps had placed avoidable pressure on the supply system and caused inconvenience to regular consumers.

Rajiv Ranjan warned that panic buying can create an artificial shortage even when stocks are fully available.

Officials also directed petrol pump operators not to sell fuel in bottles, cans or other containers due to safety concerns and to prevent possible misuse.

Traffic and Law-and-Order Concerns

Piyush Pandey expressed concern over traffic congestion and crowding outside petrol pumps across Jamshedpur. He said haphazard parking and unnecessary gatherings were disrupting traffic management and creating law-and-order challenges.

He appealed to residents to remain calm and rely only on official updates issued by the administration instead of rumours circulating on social media.

Awareness Campaign to Continue

The administration instructed petrol pump operators to spread awareness through social media, public announcements and Public Address Systems installed at fuel stations.

Officials also directed oil companies to closely monitor the supply chain and arrange additional deliveries whenever necessary to prevent any artificial shortage.

The district administration further appealed to social media influencers, YouTubers and digital content creators to avoid sharing misleading or unverified information about fuel availability. It also requested the media to help disseminate accurate information and maintain public confidence.
