Jamshedpur, Feb 1: Former Jamshedpur MP and Congress spokesperson Dr Ajoy Kumar on Monday slammed the Union Budget, and said there was no mention of defence in the budget speech even as Indian and Chinese troops face off on the northern borders, especially in eastern Ladakh.
The overall defence expenditure for 2021-2022 has been increased by a paltry sum to Rs 4,78,196 crore from last year’s budgetary allocation of Rs 4,71,378 crore, which amounts to a mere 1.4 % hike.
According to the Congress spokesperson, the budget came as a huge disappointment for the common man hit by inflation, loss of work and unemployment. Dr Ajoy lashed out at the Centre and said that government thinks the country is for sale. “There is actually a reduction in the budget allocated for health, while very small expenditure is done on health as the budget outlay of Rs 2,23,846 crore for 2021-22 includes expanded allocation of Rs 35,000 crore for Covid vaccines”, Congress leader added.
