Jamshedpur, July 31: National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), a Central Public Sector undertaking under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, seeks innovative technologies to find practical solutions to the challenges faced in the construction of highways facing extreme climatic conditions of India.
In the same process NHIDCL has signed MoUs with many reputed institutes during the current year and now with National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur to sign such MoU with a historic meeting today at New Delhi office The MoU was signed by Col. (Dr.) Nishith Kumar Rai, Registrar, National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur and Mr. Chanchal Kumar, Managing Director, NHIDCL.
National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited is formed to develop, maintain and manage India’s national highways, strategic roads and other infrastructure. It is dedicated to the task of promoting regional connectivity in those parts of the country which share international boundaries. It is responsible for the development, maintenance and management of National Highways in the North-East part of India, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and hilly areas of Uttarakhand. It works as a specialized agency in high altitude areas and border areas. Apart from highways, NHIDCL is building logistics hubs and transportation related infrastructure like multimodal transport hubs like bus ports, container depots, automated multilevel car parking etc.
Consequent to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NIT Jamshedpur and NHIDCL, NIT will be involved in designing, planning and supervising construction of highways and other infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards and resolving technical issues related to construction. Jamshedpur and NHIDCL will share technology, experience and know-how with each other. At the same time, both the institutes will also work together to find practical solutions to the challenges faced in the construction of highways in difficult environments.
Several senior officials of NHIDCL were also present on the occasion of signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited.
On the said MoU with NIT Jamshedpur, the director of the institute, Prof. Expressing happiness, Dr. Goutam Sutradhar said that this agreement will be effective in geotechnical investigation, geological investigation, underground excavation, transport engineering, analysis and development of various highway projects.
