Jamshedpur: New Year turned into a tragedy for several families in Jharkhand as, as many as 10 people lost their lives in various accidents on December 31 and January 1 and over 70 people have suffered injuries in various accidents in the state.
Two youths on their way back home on Wednesday early hours were killed after their vehicle collided with a tree near Little Flower School in Jamshedpur’s Telco area.
According to police, three friends identified as Ayush Chauhan, a trainee with Tata Cummins; Roshan Singh, a student of Arka Jain University and Ayush Mishra were returning home after New Year celebrations, when Singh lost his control of the wheels and dashed the car into a tree.
“Sharma and Singh died at the accident site while Mishra is admitted at Tata Mains Hospital were fatal injuries,” said a police officer.
In another incident from the steel city, a 20-year-old youth fell from Jamshedpur’s Dobo bridge while making reels on the new year eve. According to police, the deceased Shambav Kumar along with two other friends had come to the bridge to celebrate new year. Kumar climbed on the bridges railing to make reels when he lost his control and fell.
In another accident in East Singhbhum, 60 people from West Bengal’s South Pargana district travelling to Netarhat to celebrate new year had a lucky escape after bus they were travelling in collided at a culvert near Tamakal village under Ghatsila police station and overturned.
According to police, 16 people including children and women have suffered severe injuries, while several have suffered minor injuries. Ghatsila police with help of locals rescued the passengers of the bus and rushed the injured to the hospital for medical attention.
In another incident, two youths were killed in a head-to-head collision of two bikes on Wednesday morning in Khunti’s Murhu. Police have identified the deceased youths as Sudhanshu Kumar Jaiswal, 20, and Sega Muiya,25. Sudhanshu along with two other friends Vikki Kumar and Akash Kumar were going to Panchghagh falls to celebrate new year. Vikki and Akash have suffered injuries in the accident.
According to reports in the third incident, a youth who had suffered fatal injuries after his bike was hit by a speeding SUV on Tuesday early hours died during treatment. The deceased has been identified as Vikki Kumar while his friend is being treated at a Dhanbad hospital.
In another accident at West Singhbhum’s Jaganathpur, a scooty rider fell from a bridge in the early hours of Wednesday. Villagers crossing the bridge saw the rider and informed the police.
While, in another accident in the district’s Tantnagar a vehicle loaded with music system turned turtled. Two youths sitting in the vehicle rooftop came under the vehicle and were crushed to death.
While in Ranchi’s Bhundu, a farmer was killed after his motorcycle was hit by an autorickshaw. The injured biker was rushed to RIMS for treatment but doctors of the hospital declared him brought dead.
In an accident in Hazaribagh, a youth identified as Ajay Kumar was killed after an unknown vehicle ran over him near Hurhuru.
