People throng Jamshedpur picnic spots to celebrate New Year

Jamshedpur: On the eve of New Year, denizens of the city thronged picnic spots and different tourist’s destination to welcome 2025. Places like Jubilee Park, Dimna Lake, Tata Steel Zoological Park, Hudco Dam in Telco and Kanderbera, NH 33 were flooded with picnickers.

The East Singhbhum district administration has made elaborate deployment of policemen — both armed and lathi-wielding — along with executive magistrates to maintain the law and order situation during the celebrations.

Seven executive magistrates, seven police inspectors, eight assistant sub-inspectors, six sections of armed force and 115 lathi-wielding policemen have been deployed in and around the picnic spots, sources informed.

New Year is the time for some picnicking fun forays. According to the people, picnicking is certainly the best way to beat the drudgery of humdrum life.

“This is the peak season for us and we are cashing on the rush. With the beginning of the season people start visiting the zoo for picnics. However, on New Year’s Eve and January 1 we witness the maximum crowd,” said an official of Tata Zoological Park adding that special arrangements have been made for the visitors. He also said that people from across the region visit the zoo during this time of the season.

Jubilee Park is another favourite zone of the citizens. The park on Wednesday witnessed a huge rush of people who spent their day with family and friends amidst fun and food.

“Our park is a proper family ‘picnic-zone’. It is a safe area with a good landscape, access to roads, carparks, and preferably a boating facility. We love the place for family picnics,” said Ramesh Sinha, an employee of a private bank.

Places like Dimna Lake and Hudco dam also witnessed huge rush. Resorts and motels at NH 33 are cashing on the season. On the other hand, celebrations in most hotels and clubs began in the evening. Partying went on till the wee hours of Wednesday as residents joined hands in welcoming the New Year.


The people were busy dancing to various Bollywood numbers. Hotels in all categories lined up a variety of events to attract people. Hoteliers said that they get “reasonably good business” during New Year celebrations.


The New Year celebrations in the city had a religious fervour too. Special prayers were organised at churches and gurudwaras of the city.
