Ranchi: In a landmark development in Jharkhand, the School Education and Literacy Department has introduced draft rules for the promotion of primary and middle school teachers. This marks the first instance of formulated rules for the promotion of teachers in the state. The draft rules have been released, and the department is seeking suggestions from teachers before the rules are finalized.
The proposed rules pave the way for the promotion process to commence, specifically for vacant head teacher positions in middle schools. According to the draft, teachers appointed in classes one to five, following the implementation of the Right to Education Act in 2015-16, must successfully pass the Jharkhand Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for classes one to five to be eligible for promotion to grade seven (headmaster). Additionally, they must pass the teacher eligibility test for classes six to eight.
It’s important to note that this provision will not be applicable to teachers appointed before the implementation of the Right to Education Act in the state. The move reflects a significant step towards defining promotion criteria and eligibility for primary and middle school teachers in Jharkhand.
