BIT Sindri to Attain University Status, Plans for Faculty Development Academy Unveiled

Ranchi: The Jharkhand government is taking significant steps to elevate BIT Sindri to the status of a university, aligning it with institutions like IIT. The aim is to enhance higher and technical education in the state and foster development in the domains of quality education and research. Rahul Purwar, the Principal Secretary of the Higher and Technical Education Department, announced these plans during a press conference, accompanied by Higher Education Director Garima Singh.

In addition to the initiative for BIT Sindri, the state government is formulating a model act to regulate private universities, encompassing both existing and forthcoming institutions. Notices have been issued to universities that fail to meet the eligibility criteria outlined in the model act. This proactive measure reflects the government’s commitment to maintaining high standards in higher education.

Rahul Purwar shared that the government has allocated Rs 5 crore for establishing a State Level Astro Park at Netarhat, situated along the Tropic of Cancer. Additionally, plans are in motion to create a state-of-the-art science center within the BIT Sindri campus. Collaboration with the National Science Museum Council is underway to set up innovation centers in five government polytechnics, with an estimated expenditure of Rs 16.80 crore.
These initiatives underscore the government’s dedication to promoting a conducive environment for higher education, research, and technological advancement in Jharkhand.
