Patna (IANS): Samrat Choudhary has been elected leader of the BJP legislative party, paving the way for him to take office as the next Chief Minister of Bihar.
The decision came during a crucial legislative party meeting held on Tuesday at the BJP state headquarters on Veer Chand Patel Path. Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, acting as the party’s central observer, presided over the session. Senior leaders, including National President Nitin Nabin, B.L. Santosh, and Bhikhu Bhai Dalsaniya, attended to oversee the transition.
Unanimous Consensus
The party reached a swift consensus during the meeting:
-
The Proposal: Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha formally proposed Samrat Choudhary’s name for the leadership role.
-
The Support: Former Deputy Chief Minister Renu Devi seconded the proposal.
-
The Result: With unanimous support from the MLAs, Choudhary now stands as the designated leader to head the Bihar government.
The Transition of Power
This development marks the definitive end of the “Nitish Era” and the beginning of a new leadership phase for the state. Earlier today, Nitish Kumar formally ended his nearly two-decade tenure by submitting his resignation to Governor Syed Ata Hasnain at Raj Bhavan.
Having recently transitioned to the Rajya Sabha, Kumar also recommended the dissolution of his cabinet, clearing all legal hurdles for the BJP to take direct leadership of the state for the first time.
What’s Next?
With Samrat Choudhary’s name finalized, the BJP is now coordinating with the Governor’s office to schedule the swearing-in ceremony. An official announcement regarding the time and date of the ceremony is expected shortly, after which the new government will officially take charge of Bihar.
