New Jamshedpur bridge should be named “Ratan Tata Setu”: Saryu Roy

Jamshedpur, Oct 14: Jamshedpur Legislator Saryu Roy wrote a letter to Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Monday and requested to name the bridge being constructed over Swarnarekha River after Ratan Tata.

Roy suggested naming the bridge “Ratan Tata Setu” and the approach road as “Ratan Tata Path”. The upcoming bridge will connect Litti Chowk to NH33 at Bhilai Pahadi.

Roy urged the CM to initiate construction work of the bridge to the earliest as the model code of conduct will be enforced soon due to upcoming state elections.

In the letter sent to CM Soren, Roy also mentioned that Tata Steel transferred the land to the road construction department free of cost which has significantly reduced the time and cost required for the project. Initially the cost of the bridge was estimated at Rs177 crore including land acquisition cost which has already been purchased by Tata Steel and provided to the government free of charge.

The road construction department has since then revised the project estimate, reducing the overall cost to Rs77 crore, with the bridge and approach road construction estimated at ₹44 crore, the remaining amount reserved for miscellaneous work. After the revised estimate, a tender was issued, and the contract was awarded to the lowest bidder at approximately Rs40 crore.

Roy ends his letter by emphasizing the need to initiate the construction of the bridge soon and ensuring the construction is completed in record time. He adds that naming the bridge after Ratan Tata would honour his legacy and his contribution towards the city of Jamshedpur.
