Jamshedpur: In a significant relief for lakhs of industrial workers and their families in Jamshedpur and the Seraikela-Kharsawan district, the Jharkhand Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) Society has initiated preparations for the establishment of new ESI dispensaries across seven major industrial zones of the state.
The proposed dispensaries will be opened in Govindpur near Tata Motors in Telco, Mango, and Kandra, along with several other locations in Jharkhand. Officials have already begun searching for suitable rented premises to ensure that the healthcare facilities become operational at the earliest.
Decision approved during high-level meetings
The decision to expand the ESI healthcare network was taken during the first Governing Body meeting held on February 9 under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar. The proposal was further discussed and approved during the Executive Committee meeting held on May 15.
Sources said the approval for a new ESI dispensary in the Govindpur area was granted following consistent efforts by Rakeshwar Pandey, a member of the ESIC Governing Body. After receiving administrative approval, the department has now started the formal process for identifying buildings and setting up the centers.
Dispensaries proposed in key industrial belts
According to an official notification issued by Shailendra Kumar Lal, Director of the ESI Scheme, the department has specified the space requirements for the proposed dispensaries.
In Govindpur near Tata Motors in Jamshedpur, around 2,100 square feet of ground-floor space is required. A similar 2,100 square feet facility is proposed in the main area of Mango.
In Kandra of the Seraikela district, the department is looking for approximately 1,600 square feet of space within the market area.
Apart from the Kolhan region, additional ESI dispensaries are also planned in Ormanjhi and Tupudana in Ranchi district, Ramgarh Municipality area, and Madhupur Municipality area in Deoghar district.
Guidelines issued for building owners
The department has laid down several conditions for the buildings being considered for lease. Officials stated that the proposed premises must be located directly on the main road to ensure easy accessibility.
The buildings should also have proper public transport connectivity and adequate parking facilities for patients and visitors. Preference will be given to locations that can conveniently serve workers residing in nearby industrial and residential areas.
Application process begins
Building owners interested in leasing out their premises for the proposed dispensaries have been asked to submit their consent letters and proposals to the Director, ESI Scheme, Nepal House, Ranchi.
Applications can be sent through Speed Post or via the official email address within 15 days from the publication of the advertisement.
Major relief expected for workers
The establishment of these new ESI dispensaries is expected to provide major relief to industrial workers and their dependents, particularly those residing in the industrial belts of Jamshedpur, Mango, Govindpur and Kandra.
Once operational, the centers will reduce the need for workers to travel long distances for medical consultation and treatment, thereby improving access to affordable healthcare services under the ESI scheme.
