Jamshedpur: Kerala Public School, Kadma got the better of Navranrai Suryadevi Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir (NSSSVM) 5-4 via tiebreaker in a closely fought junior boys qualifying match of the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports football tournament here on Monday.
It was NSSSVN who grabbed the initiative at the Sumant Moolgaokar Stadium, Telco colony when Rachit Mahato scored in the 44th minute. However, their joy did not last long as Shivam Ghosh equalised for KPS six minutes later.
Thereafter both teams failed to find the net until end of the stipulated playing time. In the ensuing penalty shootout, Mohammad Amanullah, Lokesh Murmu, Shivam Ghosh and Bishnu Samrat converted their penalty kicks for KPS while Tushar Srivastav missed.
For NSSSVM, Rabilal Murmu, Suresh Hansda and Rachit Mahato found the mark while Ajay Majhi and Abhinabh Mahato fluffed their chances paving the way for KPS’ win.
In School Girls category, Jusco School edged out JH Tarapore High School 1-0 with Aparna Murmu scoring the lone goal at Armoury Ground. Mubashra Khanam was adjudged player of the match.
Earlier, Sri Krishna Public School defeated Tagore Academy 2-0 at the same ground. Arbaz Khan (31st minute) and Shubham Mishra (50th minute) scored for the winners.
Vig English School edged out Sant Nandlal Shriti Vidya Mandir 1-0 with Devdas Sunani scoring the only goal of the match in the 10th minute. CMJKM Inter College too beat SDSM School of Excellence by a similar margin with Gopal Murmu booting the winner in the 42nd minute.
