Mysterious death of four cows near Jamshedpur

Saraikela, August 19: Four cows, probably in quest for food, were found dead on Saturday under suspicious circumstances in Hattondih at Saraikela causing a stir among citizens. Immediately on receiving information Saraikela SDO Suresh Kumar Sinha, PS OC Nitish Kumar, former Ward Councillor Jugal Tape and former Vice President of Saraikela Nagar Panchayat and BJP leader Manoj Kumar Choudhary arrived at the spot. The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDO) Suresh Kumar Sinha instructed the District Animal Husbandry Officer to conduct a post mortem of the dead cows and initiate a probe into the cause of death.

Accordingly, a team headed by the District Animal Husbandry Officer, was formed to conduct the autopsy of the deceased cows. Further action will be taken after the post-mortem report was made available. BJP leader Manoj Kumar Choudhary expressed his apprehension over the cause of death when he said, “The cows, while grazing, might have swallowed toxic substances like carbide which fruit vendors use to ripen fruits artificially. These sellers often carelessly dispose of waste along with carbide in the weekly Haat Bazaar ground and this discarded carbide could have led to the cows’ death.”

Incidentally, a carton containing carbide was found near one of the deceased cows, supporting this suspicion. The BJP leader stated, “To prevent such incidents in future, strict instructions should be issued to fruit vendors at the weekly Saraikela Haat to dispose of carbide waste safely in a manner that these do not pose any hazard to grazing or scavenging animals or to the environment in general.”
