Jamshedpur: Hundreds of villagers of Badiya village of Mosabani on Monday came out on the streets against alcoholism.

Led by AJSU leader Budheshwar Murmu, the villagers took out a procession from Hospital Chowk to Mosabani police station. The villagers raised slogans against the sale of liquor in and around Badiya and demanded immediate ban on liquor in the area.

They met the officer in-charge of Mosabani PS, Hakeem Khan, and handed over a petition to him demanding action against tipplers and members of liquor mafia.

Murmu said alcoholism was taking a toll on the social and economic health of the villagers besides affecting the physical and mental health of those consuming alcohol on a daily basis. He said a large number of youngsters and old men were gripped by alcoholism. The villages are plagued by addicts of various kinds.

These addicts also commit eve-teasing and molestation, alleged the AJSU leader.

The protestors included Viren Samad, Suklal Murmu, Fagu Soren, Rakesh Murmu and Srimat Mardi.
