Congress president promises to return tribal lands taken by industries

Jamshedpur : Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to show respect while talking about the poor. Addressing an election rally at Tata College Ground in Chaibasa, Gandhi said that Prime Minister has insulted poor by questioning MNREGA scheme.

Modiji has said in the Parliament that Congress made people dig holes while the scheme provided employment to lakhs and crore of people. You should pay respect while you talk about poor and don’t disrespect them,” he said addressing the gathering.

Gandhi was here to campaign for Mahagathbandhan candidates GeetaKoda and Champai Soren from Singhbhum( ST) and Jamshedpur seats respectively.

He alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given 5 lakh 55 thousand crores to 15 influential persons which he ‘looted’ from people pocket by ‘imposing demonetization’.

Gandhi, who was on his second trip to the state to campaign for Mahagathbandhan candidates, he took a jibe thatChowkidars are not found outside the homes of the poor farmers but they are found outside the home of the billionaires.

“Modiji is a Chowkidaar for Anil Ambani and there are 15-20 people who are doing Chowkidaari outside Anil Ambani’s home,” he said adding that Modiji committed theft from the pockets of the people and gave the money to people like Ambani.

Promising to safeguard the jal, jungle, zameen (water, forest and land) of tribals, at Chhattisgarh the Government decided to return the land which had been acquired for the Tata project as the project failed to start up in five years. He noted tht lands of the tribals cannot be acquired without their consent and if the land is to be taken than four times the market rate needed to be provided.

He said it was the Congress which gave the tribals the land acquisition act, tribal bill and the Panchayati Raj system. He also claimed that the standard of living of the poor would also be improved through the ‘NYAY’ scheme.

Emphasizing that the ‘NYAY’ scheme would act as a “surgical strike” in eradicating poverty from the country, Gandhi said, “A sum of Rs 72,000 per annum will be deposited in the bank accounts of the tribals, the poor, farmers, small traders.”

The Congress chief also said 22 lakh government posts are lying vacant, which would be filled up if the party came to power.
