Jamshedpur, Oct 17: Ahead of the sacred Chhath festival, Jamshedpur East MLA Purnima Sahu has written to Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi, urging comprehensive arrangements to ensure the safety and convenience of devotees. In her letter, she emphasized timely completion of cleaning, lighting, drinking water, sanitation, traffic, security and medical facilities at all Chhath ghats and water bodies along the Subarnarekha River. She also spoke to the DC over the phone to draw his attention to these urgent preparations.
MLA Sahu noted that thousands of devotees gather along the riverbanks during Chhath, making it essential to undertake immediate cleaning, surface leveling, waste management and repair of approach roads. “Uninterrupted lighting, clean drinking water, mobile toilets and changing rooms must be arranged, especially keeping in mind women devotees,” she wrote. She further called for strict vigilance in ‘danger zones’ and deployment of police personnel, women security staff, Home Guards and NDRF/SDRF divers for crowd and safety management.
On traffic management, Sahu suggested effective planning for smooth vehicular movement and adequate parking arrangements. She also demanded first-aid centers and ambulance services at every ghat to handle emergencies.
In her letter, Sahu listed major ghats under her constituency—including Pandey Ghat (Bhuinyadih Bus Stand), Kalyan Nagar Murga Para, Baradwari, Donga Ghat, Tilak Nagar, District School Ghat and others—seeking proper preparations at each site.
Additionally, she wrote to the Deputy Town Commissioner, JNAC, to ensure all necessary facilities at artificial Chhath ghats, highlighting cleanliness, water supply, lighting and security as top priorities to ensure a smooth and safe celebration.
